Zurückspulen means “rewind” in German

Freddie and Resl were both born in Germany. Over the years, Germany saw many wars, and the land would change territories. Resl grew up in a German community in Yugoslavia. Freddie was from an area that is now Poland. But they were proud of their heritage, and I enjoy learning the “German connection” in their belongings. They immigrated through Ellis Island in 1957 and their son was born in January 1958.
Initially they had sponsorship in Pennsylvania where Freddie was a machinist, but later they were encouraged by another family member to go to Cleveland, Ohio for better jobs at the Chevrolet plant. This is what they did, and he worked for Chevy until he retired, over 30 years. Resl was an expert Hausfrau and her homemade from scratch lebkuchen was amazing. All of her baked goods! She should have opened a bakery. I am keeping it brief in this section, but for more stories about them, check out my blog. I will be sharing much more in the days to come there.
Ralph is their son, and I am his partner. Together we moved here when Alzheimer's got the best of her daily life. Ralph is their son, and I am his partner. Together we moved here when Alzheimer's got the best of her daily life. Currently, this shop is an online living estate sale, rewinding through the years of this couple’s lives. For us, it’s like opening a treasure chest! He and I both love vintage stuff in general. We certainly keep the things we treasure the most. And then we keep stuff just because it’s cool. Or just because. To be honest we aren’t very good at downsizing. LOL! But seriously, we are having fun sorting and personally, it has reignited my love for all things vintage to a whole new level! I have decided to take this even further in the future. Once the estate has been sorted, my shops will continue as vintage and antique treasure chests. This is why I am not just putting things up for sale, but trying to learn their history and how to recognize authenticity and value. It’s a wonderful journey! For now everything for sale belonged to Freddie or Resl. I will update the story when I switch to selling things acquired from elsewhere.
Thank you for taking the time to read all about us! We look forward to rewinding right into the future past! :)
I want to take a moment to explain how things were cared for, so that you feel you have a clear picture of your item's past. They were meticulous and possibly even OCD about how items were stored. I want to take a moment to explain how things were cared for, so that you feel you have a clear picture of your item's past. They were meticulous and possibly even OCD about how items were stored. Things were kept in original boxes, they kept receipts and wrote dates on labels with notes about where they bought it. Clothing was often rolled and stored in separate plastic bags. It is truly amazing to me the attention to detail and care for each item. In their minds, merchandise was purchased to last a lifetime. And they saw to it that it all did just that!
